Our Winery

This 2.5 hectare family boutique winemaking business is passionate about growing and making premium cool climate pinot noir, chardonnay and sparkling wine.  The setting and lifestyle of the Adelaide Hills makes this an ideal place to realise this ambition.

The hills around Mt Lofty produce premium wines - within a few kilometres of our estate are Ashton Hills Vineyards and Morialta Vineyards.

Our estate is 20 mins drive or 16 Km from the Adelaide CBD and 5 Km north of Mt Lofty.  At 500 metres above sea level we have a rainfall of 1300mm per annum and cool nights all year which is excellent for pinot noir and chardonnay. The vineyards are nestled in 3 to 4 hectares of eucalypts.

There are five small sections of vines, each with its own particular microclimate, orientation and soil type, or ‘terroir’.  Grapes from each block are kept separate and the wines made individually.  Current rates of production are 500 cases per annum including a sparkling pinot chardonnay.

Vertical shoot positioning and thinning result in our elegant and concentrated wines with an annual yield of around 1.5 tonnes per acre.  Some of our chardonnay and pinot is made from grapes grown locally in Ashton.

High winter rains means that there is no need for irrigation in the Adelaide Hills in most years and this ensures greater concentration in the grapes as well as minimal impact on the water table.

At this point we are aiming for an austere but elegant pinot with a weight similar to those of northern Burgundy such as in Nuit St George.  The resulting wine has silky tannins, a generous mouthfeel and the fruit is well balanced with natural acidity.  We seem to have a natural spicyness from our terroir.
